From the Park Bench

Day 73 – Lily Pond Bench

I was sitting very still on the Bench today just enjoying the moment, when this tiny, fuzzy caterpillar with an amazing headpiece started trekking past me. His furry little ‘feathers’ ruffle very smoothly and rhythmically as he walks. He’s magnificent in his tiny-ness. He doesn’t seem to mind that he’s so tiny and that his […]

Day 72 – Other Side Bench

I think it’s offical – this is my least favourite bench along the river. So close to Northern Bench, but it feels a world away. Something interesting though is that the flood markers are here. I remember when the river was flooded, being across the other side wondering how high the water was. From the […]

Day 71 – Big Old Tree Bench

It’s an amazing day for birds today. In the tree across the river there’s a Kookaburra, standing proudly on a high branch. A pair of Red-rumped Parrots are also nesting in one of the hollows. I only saw their nest because I was sitting here in the tree quietly when they landed. They looked around, […]

Day 70 – Lily Pond Bench

There’s a Black-shouldered Kite above the Bench today. He’s hunting in the field beside the pond. They’re amazing birds, white with red eyes, and this black pattern on the tips of the underside of their wings. So you can only tell if it’s the Black-shouldered or the Letter-winged Kite when they fly. Both have an […]

Day 69 – Back Deck Bench

It’s a perfect sunny day, bright blue sky, gentle breeze, singing birds, the whole deal. On the peach tree, the little flowers have turned into fuzzy peach buds. Summer is definitely on its way.

Day 68 – Lily Pond Bench

All the lily flowers are open today. It’s just beautiful. They must open up on the sunny days. They are standing proudly on their little stalks and opening up their perfect little petals to the sun. Some have little tinges of pink and others are pure waxy white. Gorgeous.

Day 67 – By the Way Bench

There’s the most beautiful breeze at the By the Way Bench today. I’ve sat here for quite a long time just enjoying the breeze. It’s a hot day, but it’s cooler in the shade under the trees. The long grass around the Bench is swaying in the wind and, because the grasses are different heights, […]

Day 66 – Northern Bench

It’s a wonderful day to be sitting on a park bench. It’s warm and sunny. There’s a little Swallow flitting around, catching insects over the river, circling around and around and dipping up and down. The sunlight is glinting off his glossy feathers. As I was sitting here, someone came up to me and asked […]

Day 65 – Grandma’s Backyard Bench

My mother has a beautiful garden. She has a pond and a fountain surrounded by grasses and potted plants. It’s full of flowers, hanging plants, ferns and fruit trees. It’s a gorgeous day out here, warm with a gentle breeze. The sunlight is dappling through the dwarf gumtree leaves. We are sitting out here with […]

Day 64 – Blue Wren Bench

Today I’ve discovered a new bench. It’s wet from spring rain so I can’t actually sit on it, but I love it. It’s got green grass, big trees and the river. It’s on the eastern side of the river. I’m wondering what to call it. Down on a mossy log, half submerged in the river, […]
