Day 71 – Big Old Tree Bench

It’s an amazing day for birds today. In the tree across the river there’s a Kookaburra, standing proudly on a high branch. A pair of Red-rumped Parrots are also nesting in one of the hollows. I only saw their nest because I was sitting here in the tree quietly when they landed. They looked around, then hopped closer, looked around again, and then finally hopped inside the nest!

On the way here, we also saw a Willie Wagtail landing on its tiny nest. The nest was a very neat little cup made out of mud, perched in a branch above the river. We saw the Willy Wagtail carefully step down in and settle on the nest. The White-plumed Honeyeaters and Superb Fairy-wrens are here, along with the Wattlebirds, Ibises, and I think I even saw a female Satin Bowerbird. Oh, and a Sacred Kingfisher as well. Kingfishers are very shy so I don’t see that many. It’s always exciting when I do.
