There’s the most beautiful breeze at the By the Way Bench today. I’ve sat here for quite a long time just enjoying the breeze. It’s a hot day, but it’s cooler in the shade under the trees. The long grass around the Bench is swaying in the wind and, because the grasses are different heights, they all sway slightly differently.
There’s about five different species of grass in this little patch alone. Some with very long fine seeds at the top, that almost look like hands but with very long fingers. Then there’s very short, fuzzy soft green grass, which doesn’t have visible seeds at this time of year, and the ones with seed pods that hang like pearls or tear drops off the top of their stalk. There’s also a very tall grass that has an upright dense cylindrical seed.
All the different types rustle slightly differently in the wind too.
