Day 58 – Big Old Tree ‘Bench’

There’s so many birds around today, big ones and little ones. There’s a lot of Rainbow Lorikeets, Crimson Rosellas, Eastern Rosellas and the Red-rumped Parrots. I also saw a species of duck that I can’t remember the name of. I’ll have to look it up in my bird book when I get home.

Today, I’m sitting up in the old tree down the far end of the trail on the other side of the river. It is a huge old river gum. It is ginormous, with gnarled branches, dimpled bark covered in pock marks, and scarred stumps where it has dropped huge branches over the years. It’s bark is a spectacular metallic silver and gold, making each tiny rumple gleam and shine. There’s no Bench here, but the branches are low down and easy to climb so there’s many comfortable places to sit.

Edit: It was a Northern Mallard Duck.
