One of my favorite things in the world is when you see the sky reflected in a calm body of water. It’s peaceful down by the river today. And the water is nice and still, which made it really easy to see the streams of bubbles from a Platypus before. I didn’t see him though. […]

Day 32 – Other Side Bench
Once again on the Other Side Bench, so close to Northern Bench but it looks and feels different. The photo is the view of Northern Bench from the Other Side Bench. Maybe it’s a metaphor for life, about how the same thing can look so different from a different perspective.
Day 31 – Big Old Tree Bench
One of the trees down by the river is shedding its bark in huge, curled sheets. The one in the picture is about the size of my leg. But there’s others that are as large as I am.
Day 30 – Northern Bench
And again, the smell of barbecue is wafting down the river on the breeze at sunset. I’m tired today, very, very tired. It’s a combination of a big day today, and really long surf yesterday.
Day 29 – Back Deck Bench
Today, I’m sitting outside with a freshly baked peach tart cooling beside me. It smells delicious. There’s been photos of the peach tree with fresh new leaves and buds in spring, then the ripening fruit. tow, The peaches have been harvested, and made into baked treats, conserves and batches of stewed fruit to be frozen […]
Day 28 – Northern Bench
We’ve been coming down to the river after dinner. It seems like a nice thing to do while the nights are still warm enough. Now, after the sun sinks low, the air starts to blow quite cold quite quickly. We’ve been having leaf races. The green leaf second from the left in the photo was […]
Day 27 – Blue Wren Bench
There’s lots of birds at the Blue Wren Bench. I saw a Kingfisher, an Azure Kingfisher, flashing through the trees. His iridescent blue back and his little buff chest shining in the sun. He was being chased by a smaller bird. No Wrens today. Although I can hear them in the undergrowth on the other […]
Day 26 – Other Side Bench
It’s smoky out here this evening. Someone must be burning off somewhere. There also seems to be lots more farm equipment on the roads with the change of seasons. It’s lovely down by the river as usual. There’s no wind today. There’s ducks and a dusky moor hen.
Day 25 – Back Deck Bench
The sunset is very pink tonight. It’s making everything look pink. All of my pot plants, the bucket of apples we’ve picked to make apple pie filling to put in the freezer over winter are all tinged pink with the sunset light. Tonight’s different too because it’s cold enough for some people to have lit […]
Day 24 – Northern Bench
The birds are settling in for the night down by the river. I just saw two white eared honeyeaters chasing a red wattlebird. They were flashing and ducking and weaving through the branches of the trees. We’re having leaf races down in the river. The river is now very narrow and it’s going under the […]
