Day 363 – Northern Bench

I loved today. We went down to the beach for a surf earlier and it was beautiful. Now I’m sitting here on the Bench and there’s a gentle breeze in the trees and just a little patch of sun just on the Bench. It’s about to go behind a cloud though. I sat here today […]

Day 354 – Northern Bench

Just a typical evening down by the river. It’s not very peaceful because of the Corellas. But I’m always glad I got outside.

Day 308 – Northern Bench

The Corellas! The Corellas are very active at this time of year. The river is full of their feathers, the trees have twigs and leaves thrown down out of them, gum nuts too. They’re everywhere.

Day 272 – Northern Bench

The river has flooded again. Not as high, but high enough for the whole path to be underwater again. Only the back of Northern Bench is showing. On the bright side, the birds love it. I’m looking at a pair of Chestnut Teals across the other side of the river. They’re in what used to […]

Day 257 – Northern Bench

It’s been hot the last few days. The river level has dropped a lot, and it’s left behind so much mud. The banks that used to be green with grass and leaves are covered in brown mud. The mud on the path in front of the Bench has now dried and cracked. This is the […]

Day 254 – Northern Bench

Everything’s just covered in mud down near the banks of the river now. It’s a very sticky kind of mud. The mud makes for some interesting tracks though. I’m wondering what this one is, with the little round fingers and very clear nail marks? I can’t wait until the water level drops enough and I […]

Day 250 – Northern Bench

The water is around the legs of Northern Bench. In the photo you can see the big tree next to the Bench is also underwater. I startled a Blackbird and he flew away. There’s also a white-faced heron out on a log in the middle of the river. He’s using it as a raft to […]

Day 246 – Northern Bench

The birds around the Bench are singing so sweetly today. In the recording all you would hear is the wind in the trees and about five different types of birds singing. It’s interesting, the cuckoo-shrike I saw up at Switchback Bench the other day is here. It’s the first time I’ve seen here.

Day 238 – Northern Bench

And just like that the water drops and the whole Bench is back and the walking path is back. You wouldn’t know that it all happened except for the grass is flattened and muddy, and there’s debris stuck to the trees. This tree is by the path and the debris is at my shoulder height. […]

Day 237 – Northern Bench (less flooded)

The bench is coming back slowly. I do miss sitting on it.
