Day 311 – Big Old Tree Bench

I’d been wondering why the whale’s tail tree looked different. I realised it’s because a tree trunk got wrapped around and stuck in it during the flood. There’s also a Chestnut Teal duck hanging out here today. They really are beautiful birds.

Day 302 – Private Bench

It’s feels like a really long time since I’ve seen the river this low. All of the steps down to the water at Private Bench are out. The causeway at Northern Bench is almost out of the water too. It’s so different to the flooded Murray in yesterday’s post.

Day 301 – Rocky Point Bench

I see kangaroos bouncing through the dry fields. It’s hot, it’s windy, there’s flies all around me, and the Murray River down there is flooded. There was sandbags all down the main street in Mannum when we drove through this morning. Some houses are already underwater. A lot of people closest to the river have […]

Day 300 – Mannum Hills Bench

We’re back on the mainland now, in a little town on the Murray river called Mannum. The Bench is out the front of our Air BnB. It has a nice view. We can just the the flooded Murray river in the distance, we’re going to go down and check it out. A pair of Corellas […]

Day 287 – Private Bench

I’ve put in a couple huge days at work lately. So it feels so good to sit on the Bench. I’ve been trying to tidy things up at work before I go away on holidays in a couple days. I’m very excited. I’m going to post from some exciting new Benches. Private Bench is covered […]

Day 284 – Other Side Bench

The first thing I saw when I came down here, was the Red Wattlebird taking a bath again. It’s amazing how quickly the river level drops. Already I can see ripples where the water’s just barely covering the causeway. It feels like only last week that it flooded again. But now it looks like the […]

Day 278 – Switchback Bench

It’s like an informal flood marker. Is the ‘U’ shaped lowest part of this tree branch in the water? Today, it is. The last time I took a photo here, it wasn’t.

Day 276 – Other Side Bench

It looks like the river level is at about three metres. Everything is muddy, the path is still muddy, there’s silt and mosquitoes everywhere. I really do want to get a telephoto lens. This morning, I walked past Private Bench. I couldn’t get to it because of a puddle, but the Wood Duck family was […]

Day 273 – Lily Pond Bench

The path to the Pond has dried so now I can walk on it. There’s a flock of Superb Wrens here, perching on the reeds. I haven’t seen that before. While I don’t see many people sitting on benches, today as I was approaching, there was three magpies sitting on the Bench. As I got […]

Day 272 – Northern Bench

The river has flooded again. Not as high, but high enough for the whole path to be underwater again. Only the back of Northern Bench is showing. On the bright side, the birds love it. I’m looking at a pair of Chestnut Teals across the other side of the river. They’re in what used to […]
