I came down to the river today hoping to see the baby Moorhens. I didn’t see them at Other Side Bench where they usually are. So I just walked down this way, and I saw the family that has two babies. The babies are picking through the grass on the opposite bank, and the parents […]

Day 341 – Big Old Tree Bench
We were walking along the path, when we spotted this teeny tiny egg. Someone has hatched! I don’t know who, but it’s someone pretty small. It’s a cream shell with brown speckles.
Day 332 – Big Old Tree Bench
There’s a big thunderstorm coming. It rained quite as lot yesterday. I think it’s going to rain again soon. There’s still a lot of birds around though. I’m watching the Red-rumped parrots in a tree on the other side of the river. On the way back, I saw the Sacred Kingfisher again. He was going […]
Day 330 – Big Old Tree Bench
The Corellas are above the Bench today. I think it’s because of all these wonderful fresh acorns that are in the tree at the moment.
Day 329 – Big Old Tree Bench
There’s always so many birds at the Big Old Tree. I saw a Crimson Rosella feather in the grass. It’s beautiful iridescent shades of blue and green. Some of my favourite colours.
Day 311 – Big Old Tree Bench
I’d been wondering why the whale’s tail tree looked different. I realised it’s because a tree trunk got wrapped around and stuck in it during the flood. There’s also a Chestnut Teal duck hanging out here today. They really are beautiful birds.
Day 310 – Big Old Tree Bench
The Wrens are here. The acacia trees have just dropped their seeds. The whole path is covered with these little red seeds. They almost looks like eyes, or some type of jewellery stones. There’s some seed pods still in the trees, I’ll put in a photo of those too.
Day 277 – Big Old Tree Bench
The Kookaburras are here, laughing away in the trees. We also saw the family of Wood Ducks. I think they slept the night at Private Bench and then they flew down the river past us and landed. I can also see some White-Faced Herons in the trees to, having and argument. I might go closer […]
Day 261 – Big Old Tree Bench
I’m watching the Eastern Rosellas feeding the little babies in the nest. I can’t see the babies clearly, they are too far inside the nest hollow. The acacia flowers are turning brown now and falling off the trees. We are climbing in the Big Old Tree.
Day 239 – Big Old Tree Bench
It is a glorious day down at the Big Old Tree. It is sunny and beautiful. There’s birds everywhere. We just saw an Azure Kingfisher fly by really close. The flood has clearly been the whole way through here, and you can see a very defined line between where the water went up to. Everything […]
