It’s feels like a really long time since I’ve seen the river this low. All of the steps down to the water at Private Bench are out. The causeway at Northern Bench is almost out of the water too. It’s so different to the flooded Murray in yesterday’s post.
Month: December 2022
Day 301 – Rocky Point Bench
I see kangaroos bouncing through the dry fields. It’s hot, it’s windy, there’s flies all around me, and the Murray River down there is flooded. There was sandbags all down the main street in Mannum when we drove through this morning. Some houses are already underwater. A lot of people closest to the river have […]
Day 300 – Mannum Hills Bench
We’re back on the mainland now, in a little town on the Murray river called Mannum. The Bench is out the front of our Air BnB. It has a nice view. We can just the the flooded Murray river in the distance, we’re going to go down and check it out. A pair of Corellas […]
Day 299 – Vivonne Bench
Vivonne Bay, Kangaroo Island. It’s is absolutely stunning. It’s a huge white beach with beautiful sand dunes behind it and rock pools at low tide. We went snorkelling by the pier before, and now I’ve found a peaceful rock down by the water’s edge. This rock is sheltered from the wind by a larger rock, […]
Day 298 – Scott’s Bench
At Scott’s Cove lookout on the north-western side of Kangaroo Island. The view is sensational. No Bench here, I’m sitting on the tailgate of the ute. It’s windy, just like it has been the whole time we’ve been here.
Day 297 – Admiral’s Bench
On the Bench at Admiral’s Arch at Kangaroo Island, South Australia. There’s nobody here but my son and I in the Arch, and the seals. There’s seals everywhere, they’re sleeping on rocks and swimming in the water. There’s some in the photo, but they’re camouflaged on the rocks. The a lot of Giant Gulls here, […]
Day 296 – Harvey’s Return Bench
It’s a beautiful, wild-feeling Bench this one. It’s at Harvey’s Return Campground. It overlooks the trailhead down into the cove. There’s wildflowers all around. The flora here is so unique and wonderful. You can see the grey ocean in the distance underneath the stormy sky.
Day 295 – Seal Bay Bench
We’re here watching the Australian fur seal colony at Seal Bay. We’re on the boardwalk and there’s a little baby and his mother about two and a half metres from the Bench. They are so gorgeous. We saw this baby drinking milk before and now they’re both taking a nap on the sand dunes.
Day 294 – Antechamber Bay Bench
We slept last night to the sound of the ocean. The water is so clear and blue. On the way to the Bench there was Hooded Plover footprints in the sand. It’s overcast today, but there’s one hole in the clouds, and it’s making a beautiful spotlight onto part of the mainland.
Day 293 – Antechamber Bay Bench
There’s no Bench here, just the softest whitest sand and the clearest bluest water. It is so beautiful. Antechamber Bay Beach. It’s meant to rain the next few days though so it might not stay so beautiful.
