The air is so humid and cold that it’s hurting my hand to hold my phone. Sitting next to the waterfall. I’m amazed that we managed to hike here without it raining on us. It was so worth it. I love the sound of the waterfall. Let’s see if we can hike all the way […]

Day 87 – Elliot Bench
Another very fresh morning at Elliott Bench. Once again in between rain showers, but just for the last maybe 10 minutes the wind has dropped. The lake is like a mirror. It is beautiful. And there’s a little flock of swallows. They’re catching insects above the water. But because it’s like a mirror, you see […]
Day 86 – Elliot Bench
Another wet morning today. There’s just a short break between storms at the moment, but it’s raining lightly. I’m sitting out here on the bench with a plastic bag underneath me because the bench is soaking wet. This morning we saw a little lamb that had got confused and stuck in some fences in the […]
Day 85 – Elliot Bench
The kangaroos are completely surrounding the bench today. They are so close I can hear them munching the grass. They’re moving slowly. When they do, they use their tails almost like a third foot. At least one of them has a joey in the pouch. It’s probably a bit too cold for the joey to […]
Day 84 – Elliot Bench
It’s sunset at the bench now, but the sky is quite stormy so we can’t see much sunset. There’s a campfire spot near the bench and we’re having a lovely peaceful campfire out here. We’ve got potatoes roasting in there with butter, and we’ve also got apples with cinnamon wrapped up ready to go in […]
Day 83 – Elliot Bench
We’re back at Elliott Bench, and it is just as good this time as it was last time. Except this time, the sheep in the fields beside have had their lambs. And there’s the noise of a lot of little lambs calling for their mothers. There’s two willy wagtails catching insects on the grass. I […]
Day 82 – Northern Bench
Well, it’s official. The water level in the river has risen above the causeway and I can no longer easily cross to the other side of the river. It’s a gorgeous sunny day with air that is very, very crisp and cold. I was hoping to go down to Private Bench, but they’re mowing the […]
Day 81 – Back Deck Bench
It’s a lovely sunny day out here. There’s no wind and the sky is blue. But the sun is far less hot at this time of year. There’s only a handful of shriveled up dry leaves on the peach tree. But the lemon tree is covered in lemons. New lemons, still slightly green.
Day 80 – Big Old Tree Bench
There’s two sheep down by the river today. They must have gotten out of their field. They’re taking their chance to gobble up the lush grass by the river. A heavy rain shower just went through and all the leaves of the trees are dripping water around me.
Day 79 – Other Side Bench
There’s no wind at the moment. It’s really nice out here. A little New Holland Honeyeater just flew low, right above my head. It’s forecast to rain quite a lot this evening. I’m wondering if the causeway, to come to this other side of the river, is going to go under soon for all of […]
