It’s been kind of cold and raining all week. And there’s clouds all around me on the horizon, but sitting here on Northern Bench, I am in a patch of wonderfully warm sunshine. The sunshine is gleaming off the bark of a small tree nearby. There was lots of tiny interesting little marks on the […]

Day 36 – Northern Bench
There’s no smell of barbecue wafting on the breeze today. It’s been raining and it kind of smells like wet eucalyptus instead. I felt very anxious today. My chest has felt tight. But when I sit here on the bench, it all feels a bit more manageable. Someone has left an empty beer bottle on […]
Day 35 – Other Side Bench
The river level is very low at the moment. Today, I climbed all the way down to read the marker and it looks like it’s below forty centimeters. So just a bit more than a foot deep. It’s pretty amazing considering I’ve seen it when it was well above four meters, probably up around four […]
Day 34 – Northern Bench
It’s wonderful down at the bench today. I don’t have much to say. It’s just me on the bench, and the trees, and the birds, in the fading light.
Day 33 – Big Old Tree Bench
One of my favorite things in the world is when you see the sky reflected in a calm body of water. It’s peaceful down by the river today. And the water is nice and still, which made it really easy to see the streams of bubbles from a Platypus before. I didn’t see him though. […]
Day 32 – Other Side Bench
Once again on the Other Side Bench, so close to Northern Bench but it looks and feels different. The photo is the view of Northern Bench from the Other Side Bench. Maybe it’s a metaphor for life, about how the same thing can look so different from a different perspective.
Day 31 – Big Old Tree Bench
One of the trees down by the river is shedding its bark in huge, curled sheets. The one in the picture is about the size of my leg. But there’s others that are as large as I am.
Day 30 – Northern Bench
And again, the smell of barbecue is wafting down the river on the breeze at sunset. I’m tired today, very, very tired. It’s a combination of a big day today, and really long surf yesterday.
Day 29 – Back Deck Bench
Today, I’m sitting outside with a freshly baked peach tart cooling beside me. It smells delicious. There’s been photos of the peach tree with fresh new leaves and buds in spring, then the ripening fruit. tow, The peaches have been harvested, and made into baked treats, conserves and batches of stewed fruit to be frozen […]
Day 28 – Northern Bench
We’ve been coming down to the river after dinner. It seems like a nice thing to do while the nights are still warm enough. Now, after the sun sinks low, the air starts to blow quite cold quite quickly. We’ve been having leaf races. The green leaf second from the left in the photo was […]
